Evaluation question 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product?

Following secondary research in the initial stages of my project i found that the audience of NME were indie and rock listeners so I decided to follow the trend of NME and design my magazine for people who listen to indie music, also I enjoy listening to indie music so I thought it would be easier for me to do. I then conducted primary research into what people thought of my ideas for the audience of my magazine, a lot of people agreed with me doing the indie genre, so I decided to do the magazine to target people that enjoy listening to indie music.

I have created a moodboard to help show what many people that listen to indie music like to do, there ages, social class, gender, tribe and other amenities.

Peer Assesment Of Flat Plan And Ideas

Peer Feedback & Improvements I Am Going To Make

- My front cover and contents page had good effects that stood out and looked good, this is good because it will draw readers to look at the magazine and convince them to buy the magazine.

- My magazine has a good layout, that is simple and not to complex. I have done this because if it was to complex and all over the place then it wouldn't look very professional, resulting in not many sales of the magazine or readers.

- In my magazine I need to display the genre better because my peers were getting confused on what the genre was. I will do this by using mise-en-scene, this will change the costumes that the band are wearing on the front cover, contents and my double page spread. I will use costumes that will represent the indie/rock genre to represent my genre and to make sure that the reader knows that the genre of my magazine is indie/rock.

- I also need to add more sell lines onto my front cover because I have gaps in my front cover and only have 3 sell lines on the cover, so I will add more sell lines to my cover to make sure that I draw the reader in.

- I also need to differentiate my font sizes because my masthead had the same size font as my main sell line and all of my other sell lines. I need to do this because the main two parts of the front cover are the masthead and the main sell line, so I need these to stand out. Also I will need certain words to stand out such as 'Exclusive' because it will draw the readers attention and is a main part of the magazine.

- After feedback about my genre and changing the costumes I will also need to focus on the colours that I use. I have found a colour pallete of different 'indie' colours. Below is the Pallete:

Covers & Contents Pages Of Inspiration

Below are examples of magazine covers and contents pages that I am taking inspiration from my prelim.

This magazines front cover uses a 3 color scheme or black, red and white. All of these colours go well together. They have used a Medium close up of the artists, who are wearing white or black, which coincides with the colour scheme. They have a mast head saying 'KERRANG!'. They have used an exclamation mark to make it as though they are shouting, which makes it more exciting. They have also wrote it in black on a white background so that it stands out even more, making it jump from the page to entice the reader. They have placed the text near to the pictures that the text relates to so that it's easier to read. Overall this magazine has a very good design by using only 3 colours, which has kept it simple yet very good to look at. Also they have used good titles such as 'KERRANG! and the main sell line such as Biffy Clyro.

On this contents page they have used 3 colours again but this time they have used yellow, black and white. They have used lots of medium-close up photos of the bands that are featured in the magazine. They have an A-Z of bands and artists on the right hand side of the page and have the page numbers corresponding to the bands part of the magazine. Overall this is a good contents page because it catches the readers eye and also shows the reader exactly what the magazine has in it and what it's about.

On this front cover they have used 4 colours unlike the other magazine, however the colours all go well with each other and the mast head, main sell line and the sell lines all stand out. They have done this by outlining the letters/words in the sell lines to make them stand out. They have also used phrases such as 'Takes on the world' which shows that there is a story that is worldwide. Overall this is a good cover because it draws the reader in with the sell lines, mast head and the colours.

This contents page uses 4 colours again the same as the front cover, but uses 3 main colours. They have an offer on a subscription which will also draw the reader in. They have a band index on the left hand side along with the page numbers and on the right hand side they have the contents of the magazine and the page numbers for them. They also a photo of a band playing a gig, which also helps show the reader what the magazine is about.
